Doelstelling: Deze scriptie maakt deel uit van het MeSH project. MeSH, een acroniem dat staat voor Medical Subject Headings, is een alfabetisch en systematisch geordende trefwoordenlijst bij de Index Medicus, een bibliografie van medische literatuur die jaarlijks wordt gepubliceerd. Om de Nederlandstalige medische wereld van een dergelijke standaard te voorzien, heeft Dr. R. Vander Stichele, die het Vlaamse Huisartseninstituut (VHI) vertegenwoordigt in dit project, aan het Departement Vertaalkunde van de Hogeschool Gent gevraagd om de MeSH editie van 1987 naar het Nederlands te vertalen. De termen die in deze scriptie worden behandeld hebben betrekking op psychologische processen en beginselen. Middelen of methode: Het onderzoek is gebaseerd op primaire bronnen (medische literatuur) en secundaire bronnen (naslagwerken). De resultaten zijn verwerkt in terminografische fiches, waarbij de GenTerm-methode is gebruikt. Het tweede deel van de scriptie bestaat uit een bespreking van de behandelde termen. Die bespreking omvat o.a. de argumentatie voor de voorgestelde vertaling en een toelichting bij gekozen synoniemen. Resultaten: De elektronische fiches met de resultaten van het onderzoek zijn klaar om te worden ingevoerd in GenTerm, de termenbank van het Departement Vertaalkunde van de Hogeschool Gent. De inleiding situeert de scriptie in het MeSH-project en bespreekt de algemene problemen waarmee ik werd geconfronteerd. Ik heb voor alle termen een Nederlandse vertaling gevonden. Sommige termen waren echter zeer moeilijk te vinden, en bijgevolg heb ik in een aantal gevallen zelf een neologisme voorgesteld, weliswaar steeds op basis van een aantal bronnen.

MeSH staat voor Medical Subject Headings en is een trefwoordenlijst bij de Index Medicus, een bibliografie van medische vakliteratuur die jaarlijks wordt gepubliceerd door de US National Library of Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland. Om de Nederlandstalige medische wereld van een dergelijke standaard te voorzien, heeft Dr. R. Vander Stichele, die het Vlaamse Huisartseninstituut (VHI) vertegenwoordigt in dit project, aan het Departement Vertaalkunde van de Hogeschool Gent gevraagd om de MeSH-editie van 1987 naar het Nederlands te vertalen. Resultaten: De onderzoeksresultaten zijn beschikbaar op elektronische fiches die klaar zijn om ingevoerd te worden in GenTerm, de termenbank van de Hogeschool Gent. In het gedeelte 'further comment' wordt in lopende tekst beschreven hoe ik tewerk gegaan ben, en welke specifieke problemen ik heb moeten oplossen. Het geheel wordt voorafgegaan door een inleiding die de scriptie situeert in het MeSH-project en de onderzoeksmethode toelicht.

In this book, Shimon Ullman focuses on the processes of high-level vision that deal with the interpretation and use of what is seen in the image. In particular, he examines two major problems. The first, object recognition and classification, involves recognizing objects despite large variations in appearance caused by changes in viewing position, illumination, occlusion, and object shape. The second, visual cognition, involves the extraction of shape properties and spatial relations in the course of performing visual tasks such as object manipulation, planning movements in the environment, or interpreting graphical material such as diagrams, graphs and maps.The book first takes up object recognition and develops a novel approach to the recognition of three-dimensional objects. It then studies a number of related issues in high-level vision, including object classification, scene segmentation, and visual cognition. Using computational considerations discussed throughout the book, along with psychophysical and biological data, the final chapter proposes a model for the general flow of information in the visual cortex.Understanding vision is a key problem in the brain sciences, human cognition, and artificial intelligence. Because of the interdisciplinary nature of the theories developed in this work, High-Level Vision will be of interest to readers in all three of these fields.

These essays draw on work in the history and philosophy of science, the philosophy of mind and language, the development of concepts in children, conceptual change in adults, and reasoning in human and artificial systems.Explanations seem to be a large and natural part of our cognitive lives.
